When it’s cold and snowy, all music studios are bundled up and drinking hot cocoa in the anticipation of the winter recital. As a teacher, you might be wondering how could you possibly bring more holiday cheer into your studio. For that job, there is nothing better than a board game, and who could go wrong with a game that isn’t only fun but also reinforces your knowledge of rhythm?
Holiday Rhythm Race Game is a fun and engaging game to help students practice counting and tapping the rhythm sequences in 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4 time signatures attuned to the holidays.
Features
Each level contains 1 game board, and 2 pages of cards with rhythm chains of different levels of difficulties, followed by 1 page of action cards. The Bundle includes all three levels of the game. For best suitability, the game was created in three levels, to appease the beginner, intermediate and advanced abilities of all students.
Level 1
This level is perfect for the students who are only learning the works of rhythm; who have never seen rhythm before or who are only learning. The game includes 4/4, 3/4 and 2/4 time signatures, illustrated with whole, half, quarter and eighths notes.
Level 2
The intermediate level contains the same time signatures and similar notes but also have rests to add to the challenge. The game also includes practice sheets for each level to ease the transition into more complex rhythms.
Level 3
Finally, the advanced level contains everything from before along with new rests and added complexity. Again it includes the game itself along with some practicing worksheets.
Bonus
Six pages of the worksheets with a similar rhythm to help you prepare students for the game are included in the file. Just print as many copies as you need and hand them to your students.
Players
This game is suitable for one-on-one teacher-student interaction, as well as for small group of 3 – 4 children.
How to Play
The players take turns drawing the card, counting (advanced students have to tap or clap) the beats and moving their mover that amount of steps forward, depending on how many beats they got on their card (2, 3 or 4). The stack of cards includes 10 Bonus cards – “ move two steps forward” or “move 3 steps backward” which adds some excitement to the game.
